Care Tip: Fur and Skin Care

Contrary to Willow's opinion, my care of her fur IS what makes her such a beautiful princess.  There are many things that you can give your pup to help their fur and skin.

My Shepherds get a NuVet Plus vitamin and fish oil daily.  I add coconut oil into their kibble and I cook scrambled eggs in coconut oil for them.

I also give the raw eggs occasionally.  This is controversial for some so please do your research and do what is right for you.

Brushing is another must for beautiful fur and it helps cut down on the shedding... some??? 🤣😂🤣😂

My German Shepherds only get a REALLY good bath two to three times per year.  They get one in the spring and fall when they blow their coats and then if something special comes up like getting a baby brother. 😉

They may get an additional REALLY good bath if they get into something stinky.  Most of the time they just get rinsed with water to get any mud off of them.  If they get too muddy I may do a quick shampoo.

Bathing to often washes away the natural oil in their fur and can lead to dry itchy skin.  This goes for all breeds but German Shepherds are especially susceptible to dry skin.

During their REALLY good bath, I shampoo and rinse them.  Then I put a good amount of conditioner on them.  I take a comb through all of their fur from head to toe.  Then as I rinse the conditioner from their fur as I comb them some more.

After they air dry for a bit I start drying them with a blow dryer and yes you guessed it...I comb them so more.  😁

The whole process take about 4 hours for the two of them.

AND YES, Willow pouts about it 😂😂😂
